When you grow up in a world where the wrong word, the wrong look, the wrong energy can have real consequences — you become extremely sensitive to energy. You learn to feel what's coming before it arrives.

That survival skill and spiritual perception are not the same thing. But they can reinforce each other. And for many people in these communities, untangling the two is part of understanding their gift.
